A shocking incident has come to light from Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, where a man allegedly befriended a girl on social media, trapped her in a fake online marriage, and later blackmailed and exploited her.
The accused, identified as Kundan Raj, a resident of Patna, Bihar, performed a virtual wedding ceremony via video call and later demanded obscene photos and videos from the girl under the pretext of a “wedding night.” When she resisted, he blackmailed her and sent his friend Dilip Chauhan to assault her, while he watched the incident live on a video call. Police have now arrested both accused.
The case falls under the Duldula police station area. According to reports, the incident dates back to 2021, when the 17-year-old victim received a call from an unknown number. The caller introduced himself as Kundan Raj from Patna and claimed he liked her after seeing her profile picture. Despite the girl’s refusal, Kundan persistently contacted her. One day, he sent a picture of his slit wrist, emotionally manipulating the girl into trusting him.
Gradually, their contact increased through video calls, and during one such call, Kundan applied sindoor (vermilion) on her forehead, symbolically marrying her. Later, he asked her for intimate photos and videos, claiming they were part of post-marriage rituals. When the victim refused to share more, he threatened to leak the videos online, forcing her to obey him out of fear.
Kundan later told the girl that since he lived far away, he would send his friend to celebrate the “wedding night” on his behalf, warning her of dire consequences if she refused. In October 2021, his associate Dilip Chauhan arrived at the victim’s location and sexually assaulted her, while Kundan remained connected on a live video call, watching and recording the entire act.
When the victim tried to cut ties later, Kundan sent the obscene video to her elder sister. Traumatized and afraid, the girl initially stayed silent but eventually gathered courage and approached the Duldula police with her sister to file a complaint.
In 2022, police arrested the main accused, Kundan Raj, from Patna and sent him to jail. Several obscene videos were also recovered from his mobile phone. Meanwhile, his associate, Dilip Chauhan, had been absconding since the incident and kept changing his location frequently to evade arrest. With the help of the cyber cell and local intelligence network, the police tracked his location to Goa, but he managed to escape from there as well. Eventually, he was arrested from the Kunkuri area.
During the identification process before the Executive Magistrate, the victim identified Dilip Chauhan as the perpetrator. During interrogation, he confessed to his crime. After gathering sufficient evidence, the police formally arrested him and sent him to judicial custody.
