Patna : Amid high-pitch campaign by both BJP and Congress for Gujarat Assembly election, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that Congress was scared of defeat in the election and its restiveness and desperation prevented it from even fielding Muslim candidates in good number in the poll.
Mr Kumar who described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Dharti Putra of Gujarat’ in his interaction with mediapersons after his weekly ‘Lok Samvad’ programme, said Congress was even avoiding its Muslim leaders from campaigning in the poll.
“Why Congress is so restless and desperate,” he wondered.
“Where is Ahmed Patel,” Mr Kumar also the JD (U) president quipped.
The Chief Minister said BJP was in very strong position in Gujarat and would register its victory in the state very convincingly. He said, Congress was very anxious in Gujarat and that was the reason it had to show ‘janeu’ (sacred thread).
“I have never wore janeu but did it mean that I am not a Hindu,” he remarked. He said revolutionary leader Jai Prakash Narain had once persuaded people to take out ‘janeu’ as he was of the view that inequality should not exist in the society. (UNI)
