Nagpur: Congress Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka MP Rajeev Gowda said his party would project AICC President Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.Talking to mediapersons on Monday, Mr Gowda said the party will gain majority under the leadership of Mr Gandhi in the next Lok Sabha elections. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had not formally projected any PM candidate.

People are fed up with the BJP-led government, which miserably failed to fulfill the election promises. It has failed on all fronts, particularly in creating new jobs and corruption is at its peak under the Modi government, he alleged.Mr Gowda dubbed the Rafale defence deal as one of the biggest scams of the country and appealed to the PM to clarify his position on the issue and come clean. The RS MP said the Congress has been rejuvenated with the outcome of Gujarat elections and the recent bypolls, particularly in Rajasthan, has brought a new ray of hope among the party.

Mr Gowda further said that they are touring the country and having feedback and suggestions from a cross-section of society, so that the people's concerns were addressed and raised by the party in the coming elections.Congress will raise the issue of Rafale deal, demonetisation, hasty implementation of GST and tailspin of economy in the country, he added. Mr Gowda also said the Modi government failed to appoint Lokpal in the last four years and added that anti-corruption agencies have weakened during the BJP regime. (UNI)
