, Friday, 19 June 2020 (10:41 IST)
Hyderabad:The Congress party has decided to celebrate the birthday of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on June 19 by distributing food kits among the needy people across Telangana State.
Addressing the party leaders, along with AICC Telangana Incharge R C Khuntia, through a video-conference on Tuesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and the extraordinary difficulty faced by the people in the country, Rahul Gandhi has decided not to celebrate his birthday this year. Therefore, he said that the party cadres restrain from any kind of extravaganza or cake cutting, a party statement here said.

However, he said that the party cadre should distribute food kits among the people in distress. He said that the Congress party has decided to ensure supply of food kits to at least 50 lakh needy people across the country and Telangana should be ahead of everyone in this initiative. He said that the distribution of food should be done from village to State level. He said essential commodities should also be distributed among poor people while fruits should be distributed among patients.

Further, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the party leaders should honour the health and sanitation workers who are selflessly fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the TRS Government was suppressing the voice of opposition. He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has stopped works on the irrigation projects which were started during the previous Congress regime. He said pending projects were completely ignored and huge public money was wasted on new projects which did not irrigate even an acre of land so far.

He also condemned the TRS Government for denying permission to Congress leaders to inspect the pending irrigation projects on Krishna and Godavari Rivers. He said Congress leaders were either arrested or placed under house arrest to foil their visits. He alleged that the KCR Government was not constructing irrigation projects to provide water for cultivation, but to get huge commissions/kickbacks.

The TPCC Chief condemned the inflated electricity bills charged to all categories of customers this month. He said that the poor and middle-class people have been burdened due to high electricity bills which are at least five to six times above normal.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also alleged that the TRS Government has completely failed to handle the Covid-19 situation. He said that the State Government failed to trace, test or treat the patients. He blamed the negligence of the TRS Government for the increase in Covid-19 cases by alarming proportions.

Senior leaders including AICC Secretaries Srinivas Krishnan, Bosu Raju, Vamshi Chand Reddy, A. Sampath Kumar, CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC Working President A. Revanth Reddy and Kusum Kumar, former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, ex-PCC President V. Hanumantha Rao and others participated in the video-conference through Zoom App.
