COVID-19: Confirmed cases cross 5000-mark, 149 deaths, 441 cured so far

New Delhi: With a spike in fresh cases since Tuesday evening, confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus in the country rose to  5,194 on Wednesday morning, as per the Health Ministry data.
Currently, the active COVID cases stand at 4643,  after 331 fresh active cases adding up since last evening.With 25 deaths reported since Tuesday evening, the total casualties  so far  due to the deadly virus across the country has reached 149.
 
There is also an increase seen in the number of cured cases, which is  441, as compared last evening's 352.The number of cases have jumped the 1000-mark in  Maharashtra with 1,018  cases and 64 casualties so far, followed by  Tamil Nadu at 690. In Delhi the number stands at  576.

In the past two to three days, confirmed cases have rapidly spiked in Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, according to the government data.A Covid infected person can infect 406 people in 30 days, the  Union Health Ministry had said.
 
The Union government has been adopting strategy for cluster containment and for outbreaks which are amenable to management, a government official had said.
 
"Happy to note that this strategy is producing positive results, especially in Agra, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Pathanamthitta, Bhilwara and East Delhi", the official said, adding "In Mumbai and in other districts too, action is being taken as per this containment strategy and action plan".
 
He further said that Smart Cities are using technology to manage COVID-19, in surveillance, contact tracing, home quarantine management, information dissemination, training, predictive analysis using heat maps and counseling, and notably, in Pune, Surat, Bengaluru and Tumakuru.
 
Around 25,500 Jamaat workers and their contacts have been quarantined, while 1,750 foreign Tablighi workers have been blacklisted, the Ministry of Home Affairs had said.(UNI)
