Chennai: Following is the summary of observations recorded by the weather office here at 0830 hrs today. Yesterday's Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Asani' (pronounced as Asani) over Westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal moved westnorthwestwards and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today, the 10th May, over westcentral Bay of Bengal near latitude 15.0°N and longitude 83.7°E, 260 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 300 km south of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 490 km southsouthwest of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 570 km southsouthwest of Puri (Odisha).
It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards till 10th May night and reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coast. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve northnortheastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. It is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hrs.
Rainfall occurred at most places over Kerala and Mahe; at a few places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Karaikal area, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep area; at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka and Telangana.
Dry weather prevailed over North Interior Karnataka. (UNI)
