Chennai: The Cyclonic Storm Fengal on Sunday weakened into a Deep Depression and will weaken further.
Met office in an update said the system over North coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry remained practically stationary during the past 12 hours.
It has weakened into a deep depression and lay centered at 1130 hours today, over the same region near latitude close to Puducherry, about 30 km north of Cuddalore, 40 km east of Villupuram and 120 km south-southwest of Chennai.
It is likely to move westwards very slowly and weaken gradually into a Depression over North Tamil Nadu during the next 12 hours.
The system is being continuously monitored.
Meanwhile, normal life limped back in Chennai city and suburbs after yesterday's heavy rains, with air, train and public transport services functioning as usual.
Though the Met office has forecast heavy rains for the day, the city witnessed moderate spells for a brief period, even as the weather remained chill, with grey skies.
