Darjeeling: Home to some highly endangered species like the elusive Red Panda, Darjeeling Zoo in the iconic HMI complex area becomes more attractive and richer with the arrival of two white tigers, and as many golden jackals, official sources said on Sunday.
The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling town's highest point is expected to attract more visitors on this wintry vacation.
The Topkeydara Breeding Center under the zoo has attained much recognition for successfully breeding wild animals, including snow leopards, Himalayan wolves, and Red Pandas in captivity.
Six months ago four Red Pandas and a pair of snow leopards were born in the zoo. The cubs were recently named by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The new arrivals of two white tigers and golden jackals were imported from Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, according to the zoo authorities.
The tigers and jackals were exchanged for a pair of Royal Bengal tigers, along with other species such as Golden Pheasants, Silver Pheasants, Lady Amherst Pheasants, and Cheer Pheasants.
The new arrivals will soon be introduced to the public.
