New Delhi: Criticizing JNU Students Union members over alleged support to anti-national elements, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that she felt uneasy over the participation of  JNUSU members with anti-India forces.
The minister, an alumnus of Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU), alleged that JNUSU members were waging war against India as claimed by their pamphlets and brochures.
In an interaction with members of the Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC), Ms Sitharaman said, "With regards to JNU,  I think it is sad as so many things are happening there. Election time argument disputes are norm but the kind of things which have happened in the last few years are really not encouraging at all. It's very different to have party whose ideologies may not be to agree with but the way in which they have probably got led by forces which are anti-India.''

"They are waging war against India as there pamphlets and brochures say that. Such people leading JNUSU or JNUSU members are openly participating with such forces. We don't need to hesitate to say anti India nexus. The forces which are waging war against India and it is they who are also seen with the student Union's elected representatives that makes me uneasy," she added.

In the just concluded students' union election, the Left unity bagged all the top four seats for 2018-19. N Sai Balaji has been elected as the president, Sarika Chaudhary as the vice president, Aejaz Ahmed Rather as the general secretary and Amutha Jayadeep as the joint secretary.

During the student body polls, the police filed five FIRs in connection with the violence and alleged molestation in the campus. The JNU administration has banned all kinds of protests, march and demonstration following the incidents of attack and violence in the university campus. (UNI)
