Delhi Red Fort Blast: DNA Test Confirms Dr Umar Nabi Drove Explosive-Laden Car, Say Police Sources

The DNA test of samples collected from the Red Fort blast site has confirmed that Dr. Umar Nabi was driving the car that exploded earlier this week, police sources revealed to PTI.

According to officials, DNA samples taken from Umar’s mother on Tuesday were sent for forensic examination and matched with human remains recovered from the blast scene. The analysis conclusively identified Umar as the person inside the vehicle at the time of the explosion.

“The DNA results have confirmed that Umar Nabi was indeed driving the car involved in the blast,” a police source said.

Umar, a resident of Koil village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, was a key member of a “white-collar” terror module busted earlier this week.

Just hours after the module—allegedly linked to proscribed terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind—was dismantled and eight people including three doctors were arrested, a powerful explosion tore through a slow-moving car near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening.

Following the arrests, authorities seized nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives from multiple locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
