New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries on Thursday paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 63rd Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
The President, the Vice-President and the Prime Minister, along with Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, , Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot, veteran BJP leader L K Advani and Congress President Rahul Gandhi offered floral tributes at the statue of Dr Ambedkar at Parliament House Lawns in the Parliament House complex.
Function of paying floral tributes to Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his ''63rd Mahaparinirvan Diwas''was organised by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The Father of the Indian Constitution Dr Ambedkar died on December 6 in year 1956 and this day is observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas. Functions are held across the country to mark the occasion.
Born on April 14, 1891, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar died on December 6, 1956. Popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, he was a jurist, economist, politician and social reformer.He was the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee and country's first Law Minister after Independence.(UNI)
