ED attaches assets worth Rs 86 lakh of Maoist leader

New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate has attached movable and immovable properties valued at Rs 86 lakh of a top Communist Party of India (Maoist) terrorist.This is the first ever attachment of properties of top Maoist leader by any agency in India. The ED attached properties of Sandeep Yadav alias Vijay Yadav, , in-charge of Madhya Zone of Bihar Jharkhand Special Area Committee of CPI (Maoist).

The ED has initiated investigation under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on the basis of proposal sent by Bihar Police containing list of more than 88 FIRs and charge sheets filed against Sandeep Yadav, and eight FIR and charge sheets filed against his brother Dhanik Lal Mandal alias Bhutali. 

Investigation revealed that Sandeep Yadav and his brother have been charged under various sections of Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and Unlawful Activity Prevention Act, for commission of heinous offences such as killing of security forces, murders, extortion, possession of arms and explosives and proceeds of crime have been laundered by collection of levy and investment of same in movable and immovable assets. 

Proceeds of crime in cash were utilised to invest in real estate. Gajendra Narayan, son-in-law of Sandeep Yadav booked a flat in Revanta Multistate, CGHS and Rajanti Devi wife of Sandeep Yadav had booked a flat with M/s Kripa Construction, Ranchi. “During investigation under PMLA, it has also been revealed that cash to the tune of more than Rs 1.50 core have been infused in several bank accounts and immovable assets held in the name of family members of Sandeep Yadav”, an official communique said here on Monday.“Properties of Rs 86 lakh have been detected and attached by ED under section 5 of the PMLA as such during the course of statement before investigating officer of agency, they failed to substantiate the licit source of income utilised for acquisition of the subject properties”, the probe agency said in its statement.

The attached properties include immovable properties -- three plots of land located at Aurangabad acquired in the name of Rajanti Devi, wife of Sandeep Yadav; one plot of land at Gaya held in the name of Rajanti Devi, wife of Sandeep Yadav and Gudiya Devi, wife of Dhanik Lal Mandal and a plot of land at Banke Bazar, Gaya, in the name of Dhanik Lal Mandal. Advance payment of Rs 10.68 lakh was made to Revanta Multistate, by Gajendra Narayan, son-in-law of Sandeep Yadav for purchase of flat at Dwarka, New Delhi.
