Encounter ensues in north Kashmir

Srinagar: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces on Friday in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said.They said on a tip off about the presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation in Palhalan area of Baramulla district early this morning.

However, when the security forces were sealing the area, militants opened fire with automatic weapons, they said, adding security forces also retaliated ensuing an encounter.Sources said two to three militants are holed up in the area.Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed and cordoned off the area to prevent any demonstration, they said.Last night there was brief exchange of fire when militants tried to attack a CRPF camp at Pangam, Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir last night. However, no one was injured in the attack.(UNI)
