Government announces major bureaucratic reshuffle

The Government has announced a significant secretary-level bureaucratic reshuffle, aiming to inject experienced officers into key ministries, including Petroleum, Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals, and Agriculture.

This realignment is expected to bring deep sector knowledge and policy expertise to these ministries as they prepare for the next financial year and navigate critical regulatory landscapes.

Neeraj Mittal (IAS, 1992, TN cadre) is appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, marking his return to the ministry where he previously worked on energy reforms.

Amit Agrawal (IAS, 1993, CG cadre) takes over as the new Telecom Secretary, bringing expertise in digital governance and experience as the head of UIDAI.

Manoj Joshi (IAS, 1989, KL cadre) heads the Department of Pharmaceuticals, leveraging his background in land management, urban affairs, and regulatory coordination.

Atish Chandra (IAS, 1994, BH cadre) is named Officer on Special Duty in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, set to assume the role of Agriculture Secretary from February 1st.

Sunil Paliwal (IAS, 1993, TN cadre) is appointed Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, utilizing his maritime infrastructure experience.

V Vidyavathi is shifted to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, while Srivatsa Krishna (IAS, 1994) takes over as the new Tourism Secretary.

Anju Rathi Rana is appointed Member Secretary of the 23rd Law Commission of India, and Rajiv Mani’s tenure as Secretary of the Legislative Department is extended until July 2028.
