Heavy fuel leakage is controlled in Manipur

Leakage at Leimakhong heavy fuel power station has been effectively controlled.People living near the station saw spillage from the station on January 10, following which the government started work using heavy machinery.

Officials, police, and residents of the area stopped the flow towards the Imphal River.Chief Minister N. Biren Singh ordered officials and police to rush in and start a probe.The CM also discussed the matter with Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, IIT faculties, the Indian Coast Guard, and various department officials.

The spill, spreading heavy fuel into streams, has now been effectively controlled. An expert team has been formed to investigate the incident and conduct a comprehensive assessment of the contamination and its impact on the surrounding areas. Additional security measures have also been taken up.

The discharge had forced villagers living along the stream passing through Kantosabal and Sekmai to flee.An FIR has been registered, and the area is also being completely sealed by deputies with adequate security forces. An expert investigation team led by Ashutosh Sinha, ADG (Int), Manipur, was constituted to ascertain the cause of the incident. The other members of the team are Commissioner (Power) Shailesh Kumar Chourasia and Additional Secretary (Home) M. Pradip Singh.(UNI)
