Bhopal: A special investigation team is being constituted and all police station have been placed on alert in the wake of the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad arresting four members owing allegiance to the proscribed Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen – a terrorist organisation based in Bangladesh – Madhya Pradesh Home Minister and government spokesman Narottam Mishra said on Monday.

“Three of the accused confessed that they hail from Bangladesh. It is hitherto unclear as to when they reached this city. Jihadi literature, documents arousing suspicion and electronic equipment were seized from their possession on Sunday,” Dr Mishra told the press here.

The foursome – identified as Fazar Ali, Mohammad Aqeel, Jahooruddin alias Ibrahim and Fazar Junail – were creating a remote base sleeper cell.

A night raid executed in the densely-populated Aishbagh locality resulted in the ATS success.

In 2005, the JuM triggered approximately 500 bombs at about 300 places in 50 cities or towns of Bangladesh.

The group was responsible for the death of two persons in 2014 in a blast at West Bengal's Bardhaman. Four years later, another explosion took place in Bodh Gaya.

In the wake of these attacks, the Centre banned the JuM in 2019 for a period of half a decade. (UNI)
