How ceasefire decision has backfired in Kashmir today

Jammu: A BSF jawan was martyred and four civilians were injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistani Army along the international border in Jammu and Samba districts early Friday.

"Pakistani troops during wee hours on Friday yet again resorted to heavy mortar shelling in Arnia, R S Pura sectors of Jammu and Samba sectors," official sources here told UNI.They said that the cross-border shelling has so far left a BSF Jawan martyred and four civilians injured.

"Pakistani troops started firing and shelling targeting Indian positions and civilian areas in Arnia, R S and adjoining Samba sectors during wee hours," they added.BSF Jawan Sita Ram Upadhyay, 28 from Paliganj, Jharkhand deployed at a post in Arnia, was injured seriously in cross-border firing. He succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

Meanwhile, civilians namely Farooq Ali of Joura Farm, R S Pura also sustained injuries in firing and was rushed to the hospital.Three more civilians, injured in cross-border firing admitted in GMC, have been identified as Payara Lal, 60, resident of R S Pura, Raman Kumar Gupta, 55, resident of Treva, Arnia, Harbans Lal, resident of Treva.

The BSF personnel retaliated effectively to the firing while intermittent exchange of fire at some places was still continuing.More than 10 border outposts and an equal number of villages are affected by the shelling.The schools in the radius of 3-km from the border have also been ordered by the Sub-District Magistrate to remain closed on Friday in view of shelling.

A BSF Jawan was martyred in the firing by Pakistan's Rangers in Samba sector on Monday night foiling an infiltration bid by terrorists from across the border while a BSF Jawan and two civilians were injured in Pakistan's shelling in Samba and Hiranagar sectors on Thursday.

DG BSF, during Jammu visit, claimed that a group of five terrorists have infiltrated to this side.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Jammu on Saturday to inaugurate mega projects and lay foundations of some.(UNI) 

 Weapons of 3 police guards missing in Srinagar

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police has launched a massive hunt to trace three weapons which were found missing from a police post in Dalgate area of the summer capital, Srinagar, official source said on Friday.

They said panic gripped a hotel when police guards posted there found three weapons missing late last night from the post.Senior police officers were immediately informed and a massive hunt was launched to trace the weapon.

Giving details sources said that police guards were posted to guard a hotel, where some protected people are staying at Buchwara Dalgate on the bank of Dal Lake. However, the police guards had gone to offer prayers in a mosque, On their return, they found three weapons missing.

A case has been registered and investigation taken up, they said adding police guards are also being questioned.

 Militants attack SF patrol party in N Kashmir

Srinagar, May 18 (UNI) An exchange of fire took place between militants and security forces in Hajin area of north Kashmir district of Bandipora early Friday morning, official sources said.

However, no injuries were reported.They said a patrol party of security forces was attacked by militants at 0145 hrs at Hajin with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated and exchange of fire continued for some time, they said.

Later, security forces conducted Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO) in the area but the militants had managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The exchange of fire took place a day after the Centre announced unilateral ceasefire and said that security forces will stop CASO during the holy month of Ramadan. However, the Army has warned that any attack would be retaliated and CASO will be launched against militants on specific inputs.(UNI)
