New Delhi:Armies of India and the US on Monday commenced the Joint military exercise at the Mahajan Field Firing Range, situated in Bikaner town of Rajasthan.
The joint exercise would see the two armies sharing their experiences and skill sets among themselves. The military exercise started off with unfurling of flags of the two countries and playing of the national anthems- India's 'Jana Gana Mana' and US' national anthem 'The Star-Spangled Banner'.
The participating US Army contingent comprises of two battalions, three infantry regiments and 270 soldiers of the Striker Brigade combat team.This 14-day bilateral military exercise would focus on counter terror operations in desert settings.
Commander of Indian Army's 170 Infantry Brigade, Brig Mukesh Banwala welcomed the American contingent, requesting both the contingents to work in harmony and co-ordinate among themselves to achieve the objectives of the joint military operations.
He encouraged the two sides to openly exchange ideas, concepts and their military traditions, so as to gain from each other's operational experiences.
The war games would feature air operations, in which the newly-inducted indegenious light helicopter 'Rudra' MI-17, BMP-II mechanised infantry combat vehicle and US Army's Chinook will be used.(UNI)
