Inida's COVID tally reaches 1,98,706 ,After 8K spike in cases

New Delhi: India's Covid-19 tally inched closer to 2 lakh-mark after it recorded 1,98,706 lakh cases with the highest single-day spike of 8,171 cases, Union Health Ministry updated on Tuesday.
The overall death toll due to the contagion has reached 5,598 with 204 fatalities since Monday, it said.Cases under active medical supervision have shot past 97,000, with the figure now standing at 97,581 pan India.
 
On the brighter side, survivor count of the COVID-19 patients has witnessed an improvement as 3,708 patients have been cured and discharged in over 24 hrs, taking the total recoveries to 95,526.
 
Several relaxations have been given by the state and central government in the fifth phase of the countrywide lockdown, as services are opening up in a step by step manner. However, experts believe that now is the time to focus more on self saving measures with chances of contagion to affect at a wider scale with people getting back to the public spaces.
 
Personal hygiene habits, social distancing would play an integral role in preventing oneself from falling prey to the virus.(UNI)
