Islamic org pressurizes Myanmar for Rohingya repatriation

Dhaka: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday decided to mount pressure on the Myanmar government to take back the Rohingyas, who took shelter in Bangladesh. 

The organisation is also concerned about the rights of citizenship of this neglected population, representative of the OIC Human Rights Organisation (IPHRC) Dr Rashid al-Balusi told reporters here, following a meeting with State Minister Md Shahriar Alam.A 12-member IPHRC delegation team came to Bangladesh on Wednesday morning to inspect the humanitarian crisis of Rohingya refugees in the camps. 

The team will visit Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar from January 4 to 6. Dr Rashid said the Rohingyas have to be taken back to their lands. To give them their due rights, OIC will put pressure on Myanmar. OIC has focused the issue in international forums, and will continue to do so in future, he added.He also praised Bangladesh for supporting the Rohingyas, adding that OIC has always stood by Bangladesh on this issue.(UNI)
