New Delhi: Expressing happiness that the voice of India is becoming increasingly global and that the country today enjoys stronger presence at the world stage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stressed the need for Indian media to go global.
Inaugurating the Patirika Gate, a tourist attraction at Jaipur, through video conferencing, the PM said, ''Today, the local products of the country are going global but the voice of India is also going increasingly global.
''Today, India has a strong presence in almost every Global stage. At such a time, Indian media also needs to go Global. Our newspapers and magazines should have a global reputation. In this digital age, we should reach digitally across the world. The need of the hour is that Indian institutions should also give the kind of literary awards given in various parts of the world. ''
On this occasion, the PM also released two books 'Samvad Upanishad' and 'Akshar Yatra', authored by Patrika Group Chairman Gulab Kothari through video conferencing.
Mr Modi also called for inculcating the habit of reading books among the new generation. ''Today, in this era of text and tweet, it is important that our new generation does not get away from imbibing serious knowledge,'' the PM said.
Lauding the media's contribution in generating awareness about various schemes and programmes of the government like Swachch Bharat Mission and Ujjwala Yojana, the PM said, ''Indian media has also played an significant role in the awareness campaign against Corona . Our media has been doing good work of explaining the government's actions, and criticizing the shortcomings in the government schemes.''(UNI)
