JD(U) president & former bureaucrat Chandra Prasad Singh gets Steel Ministry

Patna: Mr Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, a close confidant of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was made national president of JD(U) with his blessings in 2020, was 1984 batch IAS. officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre had started his political career by joining JD(U) in 2010 after resigning from the service months before retirement, today found a berth in the cabinet during its expansion by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.He has bagged steel ministry in cabinet reshuffle.
Mr Singh, born on July 06, 1958, in Mustafapur village in Nalanda district of Bihar had started his administrative career as IAS office of 1984 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre.He was personal secretary to the Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma when Mr Nitish Kumar appreciated his qualities as an officer and got him appointed as his special secretary when he was Railway Minister in Vajpayee government in 1996.
 
When Mr Kumar became Chief Minister of Bihar in 2005, he brought Mr Singh to Bihar and made him his principal secretary. In the year 2010, he resigned months before his retirement and joined JD(U), beginning his political career.
 
He was sent to Rajya Sabha the same year by Chief Minister Mr Kumar from JD(U) quota who repeated him in 2016 for the upper house.Mr Singh was appointed as leader of JD(U) parliamentary party in Rajya Sabha after the exit of Mr Sharad Yadav from the party following his differences with Mr Kumar on JD(U) joininghands with BJP to form a new NDA government in the year 2017.
 
He was also General Secretary (organisation) before being elected national president of JD (U) in 2020 after Mr Kumar resigned from the post. All eyes will remain focussed on Mr Singh that how he discharges his responsibility as Minister and utilises his vast administrative experience as an IAS officer.(UNI)
