Kerala: 2 women theatre artists killed, 9 other injured as minibus overturns, falls into gorge

Kannur: In a tragic incident, two women theatre artists were killed and nine others injured from a Deva Communication Kayamkulam when their minibus overturned to a gorge while returning to Wayanad after a stage performance at Malayampadiyil near Kelakam on Friday wee hours.

According to the police, the deceased were identified as Anjali (32) of Muthukulam near Kayamkulam and Jessy Mohan (45) of Thevalakkara near Karunagappally.

The incident occurred around 0400 hrs, when the 14-member theatre troupe of Deva Communication, Kayamkulam, were returning to Bathery after performing a stage programme at Kadannappally in Kannur district.

The minibus lost control while negotiating a curve on a hilly road at Nedumpoil Vadi Road, which was a shortcut to enter Wayanad district, and overturned to a gorge, and the bus stopped after hitting a tree.

Firefighters and police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons. Seriously injured nine persons have been admitted to a private hospital at Kannur.
