Kerala church demands action against expanding 'love jihad'

Kochi: Syro Malabar Synod on Wednesday demanded action against 'Love Jihad' as he alleged that girls belonging to Christian community are being murdered by them nowadays in Kerala.
The Synod condoled the death of a girl who was killed recently. The church also expressed concern over love jihad in Kerala and opined that it will affect the communal harmony and peace of the state.
 
Among the 21 people who were recruited to Islamic State, half were converted from Christianity. The synod also noted complaints on forced religious conversion of girls over love affair, sources said on Wednesday.
 
The synod said religious conversion is a social issue apart from a religious matter. He also expressed concern over the increasing violence against Christians across the globe.
 
BJP leader supports Christian body, demands stern action against 'Love Jihad'
 
Thiruvananthapuram: Extending support to the demand of Syro-Malabar Synod, former Kerala BJP President Kummanam Rajasekharan, who was also a former Governor of Mizoram, on Wednesday urged the Left Government in the State to take strong action against 'Love Jihad' posing danger to the secular harmony and social peace.
 
The BJP leader was reacting to the Christian body, Syro-Malabar Synod's complaint that Christian girls in Kerala are being targeted by Muslim extremists for terrorist activities.
Among the 21 who went to Syria to fight for ISIS, half of them were converted Christians. Christian girls are being killed in the name of 'Love Jihad', the Synod cautioned.
 
The BJP leader, who blamed State Finance Minister Dr Thomas Isaac for downplaying the Synod's complaint, alleged that the nexus between the extremist groups and the CPI(M) at the ground level was the reason for the inaction from the Government side.
 
Pointing out that hundreds of cases are pending before various courts in connection with the 'Love Jihad', he said the CPI(M) was supporting the extremist groups in Kerala.(UNI)
