Chandigarh: Punjab Police and Intelligence Wing in a joint operation arrested 'Waris Punjab De' chief and pro-Khalistan fugitive Amritpal Singh under National Security Act (NSA) from a Gurudwara in Rode village of Moga district on Sunday morning.
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill said that Amritpal was arrested at 7.45 am today after a 36-day search operation against him and his associates.
He said that the police had received specific information that Amritpal was hiding in the Gurudwara of the village, after which the police surrounded the entire village.
IGP Gill said that Amritpal Singh had no way of escape and was forced to come out.
The official underlined that the police acted while maintaining the dignity of the Gurudwara.
IGP Gill said that Amritpal Singh has been arrested and sent on his way to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam.
IGP Gill warned that strict action would be taken against those who spoil the atmosphere of the state and thanked the people for maintaining peace in the state during the time of the operation.
It is notable that the police have already arrested several associates of Amritpal Singh under NSA and sent them to Dibrugarh jail. Two days ago Amritpal's wife Kirandeep Kaur was also stopped at Amritsar airport while trying to go to London where she was sent back to her village after about four hours of questioning. (UNI)
