Bubaneswar:The much sensational October 10 kunduli gang rape incident took a tragic turn today as the victim dalit minor girl, committed suicide at her house frustrated over the police inaction and investigation into the case. The victim girl was rescued in a critical condition from her house in Musaguda village and taken to the Kunduli Community Health Centre where the doctors declared her as received dead.

Sunabeda SDPO Narahari Nayak confirmed that the Kunduli gang rape victim had committed suicide. The minor dalit girl had alleged that she was gang raped by four armed jawans .She had even told the newsmen that she was under pressure from the police to withdraw the case and even offered money by a senior police officer to change her statement. The incident had snowballed into a major political issue in Odisha forcing the state government to declare it as a Red Flag case, order for a Crime Branch Inquiry and later a judicial inquiry by a sitting District Judge.

The girl while returning from Kunduli to her house was gang raped on October 10 inside Lanjiguda forest under Patangi police station by four people in uniform. She had lodged a FIR with the police in this regard but the police quoting the medical examination report had denied that she was gang raped. The Opposition Congress and the BJP today demanded a CBI probe into the shocking incident and alleged that the victim girl was forced to commit suicide as the police had time and again pressurized the girl to disown her own statement of gang rape.

Social activist Rutuparna Mohanty said it was a clear case of murder as the victim girl was under tremendous pressure from the police for her gang rape statement. She said the victim dalit girl committed suicide as she was very much depressed and under serious mental agony after the police denied that she was gang raped by the jawans. The girl,Ms Mohanty said took the drastic step to end her life, as she knew that she will not get the justice from the police and the administration.(UNI)
