Lateral entry in govt jobs will bypass SC-ST-OBC quota: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has slammed the government over its plan to recruit officials through lateral entry and said that this was an attempt to openly snatch away reservation of SC, ST and OBC categories.

He also said that the INDIA bloc will strongly oppose this 'anti-national' move which hurts both the administrative structure and social justice.

On his social media handle X, Rahul Gandhi said, "Narendra Modi is attacking the Constitution by recruiting public servants through 'Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh' instead of Union Public Service Commission".

"I have always said that the underprivileged are not represented in all top positions in the country, including the top bureaucracy. Instead of improving this, they are being pushed further away from top positions through lateral entry," the Lok Sabha MP said.

He said that this was the robbery of the rights of talented youth preparing for UPSC and an attack on the concept of social justice including reservation for the deprived.

"A prime example of what representatives of a few corporate will do by occupying key government positions is SEBI, where for the first time a person from the private sector has been made the chairperson," Gandhi said.

"INDIA will strongly oppose this anti-national move which hurts both the administrative structure and social justice. 'Privatisation of IAS' is Modi's guarantee to end reservation," the former Congress president said.

The UPSC on Saturday invited applications for lateral recruitment of Joint Secretary, Director and Deputy Secretary level posts on contract basis.
