LeT militant killed in Bandipora encounter

Srinagar: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed in a fierce encounter by security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Thursday, official sources said.The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said.Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants, Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Shakooruddin, Hajan, Bandipora in the wee hours this morning.

Security forces sealed all exit points, they said, adding that when the security forces were moving towards particular area in the village with the first light this morning, the militants opened fire.They said security forces also retaliated ensuing an encounter. One of the holed up militant has been killed, they said, adding that it is believed that one or two militants are still holed up in the area. (UNI)
