New Delhi: Workers of Left parties holding red flags, festoons and the portrait of Karl Marx took out a march from Ramlila Ground to Sansad Marg to observe May Day, the 132nd International Working Class Day. Rallying under the banner of Indian Federation of Trade Unions (Delhi Committee), the processionists raised slogans for struggle and emancipation of working class.
On the occasion, IFTU called upon the working class to build the struggle for a just and socialist society and expressed solidarity with the all India protest programmes by dalits and other rights groups against changes in the SC/ST Act and withdrawal of false charges against those who took part in the April 2 Bharat Bandh protest. This year marks the 200th birth anniversary of German revolutionary Socialist Karl Marx. Industrial workers from Mayapuri, Okhla and Haiderpur industrial areas were joined by construction workers, intellectuals and students in the rally which culminated in a mass meeting at Sansad Marg.
