Militant killed in scuffle after gunmen shot dead a PDP ex-panch

Srinagar: A militant was killed in a scuffle after three gunmen shot dead a ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ex-panch in the south Kashmir district of Shopian Monday night. Official sources told UNI that a group of militants entered the house of a PDP ex-panch Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh at Nagbal in Shopian last night.

However, before the inmates could do anything militants fired upon 50-year-old Sheikh. Immediately after the incident the other family members and neighbours tried to overpower the militants, leading to scuffle in which a militant was killed. However, two other militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The injure Sheikh was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead. The slain militant was identified as Showkat Kumar alias Falahi of Trenz village of Shopian. Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid, confirming the incident in a tweet said,"3 terrorists fired & killed ex -Panch PDP Moh Ramzan in Shopian. In scuffle one terrorist Shaukat also killed”. This is the first incident when locals resisted militants and killed one of them in the Kashmir valley in the recent past. (UNI)
