Militants kidnaps Army jawan in south Kashmir

Srinagar: Militants on Thursday abducted an Army jawan, who was travelling in a private vehicle in south Kashmir, official sources said.
They said soldiers at an Army camp of 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) stopped a private vehicle of a pharmacist, who was on way to duty, and asked him to drop a jawan, identified as Aurangzaib, in Shopian.
 
However, militants stopped the vehicle near Kalampora between Shadimarg and Shopian and abducted the soldier.
 
Security forces have been rushed to the area and a massive search operation has been launched to trace the abducted soldier. "Checkpoints have been established at many places and vehicles are being thoroughly checked before allowing to pass," they said.
 
They said Aurangzaib was going to Jammu, his native place, on Eid holidays. He was posted as personal guard of Major Shukla, the Army officer who killed top militant commander Sameer Tiger in south Kashmir last month.(UNI)
