Ahemdabad: The Congress today attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for holding what it called a ’'road show’’ in Gujarat on the polling day Thursday, and condemned  the Election Commission for allegedly ignoring the violation. The Opposition party described the Election Commission as a ‘’captive puppet’’, of the Prime Minister .Addressing a press conference here, Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Prime Minister had lowered the dignity of his office by holding the road show which was against the model code of conduct.

Mr Modi, after casting his vote at booth number 115 in Sabarmati’s Ranip locality Thursday, addressed people while standing on doorsteps of his car as it moved through the crowd.Taking strong exception to his action, Mr Surjewala said , ‘’Unfortunately, the Chief Election Commission had abdicated its constitutional responsibility.’ He said the party had approached the Election Commission in the morning to initiate cation against Mr Modi but it said it would entertain any plea after the polling came to a close.

The Election Commission had yesterday issued a notice to Congress president elect Rahul Gandhi for giving interview to TV channels saying it was in violation of model code of conduct as the campaign for the second phase of polling had come to a close on December 12.Following the notice, the Congress had last night rushed to the Commission with complaint that the Prime Minister had also violated the model code misusing the FICCI platform last evening to launch attack on the previous Congress governments. The Congress Spokesperson said the Election Commission was adopting a double standard while dealing with the two leaders.
