Cong demands apology from Modi over his Pak link accusation

Cong demands apology from Modi over his Pak link accusation

New Delhi: Outraged over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's insinuation that its senior leaders, including Dr Manmohan Singh, and also former Vice-President Hamid Ansari, were in connivance with Pakistan for influencing Gujarat elections, the Congress today demanded an apology from him.The party said Mr Modi had done a most reprehensible act of casting aspersion on those, who served the nation at high constitutional posts.

Senior Congress Spokesperson Anand Sharma said it was the Prime Minister himself, who owed an explanation to the people as to why he visited Pakistan two years ago on the birthday of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and why Pakistani agencies were allowed to visit Pathankot. 'Nothing can be more absurd than what the Prime Minister has said in Gujarat yesterday,' Mr Sharma said at a press conference here.

'The Prime Minister is expected to be dignified in his political discourse, and as he himself holds a high office, he should not cast aspersions on those who have served the nation with dedication,’’ he said.Mr Sharma said Mr Modi by doing so, was just trying to mislead, confuse and polarise Gujarat voters, eyeing the second phase of Assembly polls.

Mr Modi had yesterday alleged that former Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, along with some senior Congress leaders (Manohan Singh) and a former vice president (Hamid Ansari), had met the Pakistani leaders, before making the 'neech' comment against him.(UNI)
