Ahmedabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reviewed preparations of the ‘Namaste Trump’ event which will be held in honour of US President Donald Trump’s maiden visit to India, at the newly reconstructed Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera here on Monday.

Shah, who is also the president of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), that owns the Motera Stadium, visited the stadium, spread over 60 acres, and reviewed the arrangements for the grand event in which various cultural performances would be presented by reputed artists including Sufi singer Kailash Kher.

The city is all decked up for Mr Trump’s visit. Over 1 lakh people are slated to attend the grand function which will be addressed jointly by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President.

Mr Trump would arrive here, Monday morning, and participate in over 20 km-long ‘India Road Show’ before participating in the ‘Namaste Trump’ event. Over 11,000 security personnel have been deployed for the two events.

Meanwhile, the Trustee of Sabarmati Ashram here, Amrit Modi, confirmed that President Trump would visit the historic Ashram, as earlier an uncertainty loomed over it as the official itinerary of Mr Trump did not mention it.

During the road show, artists would give the glimpses of Indian culture from various stages erected en route. Diversion of traffic routes have also been done to avoid any inconvenience.

US president would be accorded a grand red carpet welcome at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport here where he would be received by Mr Modi. Later the two leaders would start the road show.

“India looks forward to welcoming US President Donald Trump. It is an honour that he will be with us tomorrow, starting with the historic programme in Ahmedabad!,” PM said in a tweet.

Mr Modi would himself arrive at the Ahmedabad airport tomorrow almost an hour before the arrival of Trump and would later receive him there, informed sources today said. Both the leaders would later leave for New Delhi. (UNI)
