Kolkata: Ahead of the sixth phase poll on Saturday, Nandigram in Purba Medinipur was once again on the boil after a BJP women wing worker was allegedly killed and eight others including her son injured by some unidentified miscreants with the BJP workers staging demonstration and protests prompting the deployment of the Central armed forces, official sources said.
Sources said Rathibala Arhi, the BJP Woman worker was murdered on Wednesday night.
Sources said the miscreants raided the Sonachura village and set on fire some of the houses in which the deceased's son and seven others were injured.
Police were investigating the crime in Sonachura village where the miscreants raided some of the houses and attacked with sharp weapons in which BJP worker Rathibala Arhi was killed and her son Sanjay Arhi injured with seven others.
Sanjay was shifted to a hospital in Kolkata after his condition deteriorated.
The miscreants, after attacking, torched some of the houses and shops in the locality.
Nandigram MLA Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the "Jangi Jihadi" was behind the crime and BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar alleged the TMC was behind the crime.
He said the TMC was making all efforts to create terror in the area and threatening the voters to ensure the defeat of the BJP candidate Justice (retd) Abhijit Gangopadhyaya in the Saturday's poll in the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat.
The BJP workers staged a protest demonstration and burned tyres on the road in protest against the murder of their women wing worker and demanded the arrest of the culprits.
Thursday is the last day for campaigning for the May 25 poll.
Reports said the miscreants attacked the Manasha Pukur market area at around 2 AM. The miscreants came on motorcycles and attacked the houses of BJP supporters with sharp weapons in which Rathibala Arhi was killed and eight others wounded.
Sanjoy came to save his mother when the miscreants attacked and injured him critically.
Meanwhile, the central armed forces were deployed to instill confidence among the local people.
