Srinagar: Taking a dig at Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta for his statement that BJP does not support the policy of soft approach towards stone pelters, working president of the main opposition National Conference Omar Abdullah said amnesty to stone pelters was announced by the Union Home Minister on the advice of interlocutor.
Stone-pelting by miscreants on a school bus in Shopian in south Kashmir on Wednesday in which two minor students were injured evoked condemnation from mainstream and separatists leaders.

Taking to micro-blogging site twitter Omar Abdullah, reacting to Mr Gupta's statement on injury to two minor students, said, "Some one needs to remind the Deputy CM that the amnesty was announced from Delhi by the Union Home Minister on the advice of the interlocutor."

Cases against about 10,000 stone pelters were withdrawn in the Kashmir valley on the directions by Union Home Ministry after centre appointed interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma recommended following his several rounds of interaction with politicians, traders and common people since his appointment in October last year.

Jammu and Kashmir police has been organising counseling of stone pelters and other misguided youths and their parents almost daily in the valley.
