PM Modi pays homage to martyrs of Pulwama, says people are ‘anguished’ about terrorism

New Delhi: Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Sunday paid rich tributes to the martyrs of February 14 Pulwama terror attack and said the martyrdom has only resolved country’s commitment to eradicate and crush terror menace.

“....Logon ke mann mein Aghat aur Akrosh hae (People feel hurt and are anguished at the terror attack),” he said in his monthly radio broadcast Mann-Ki-Baat programme over All India Radio.

In this context, he said at times he is ‘surprised’ and also at ‘pains’ to know that the country did not have any National War Memorial.

“We needed such a memorial which can pay tributes to martyred soldiers and cherish their valour,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that the Prime Minister Narendra will inaugurate the National War Memorial near India Gate in the capital on Monday.

The memorial will honour soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country since Independence, Prime Minister said.

“The National War Memorial will include a wall that will carry the names of those soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country,” Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat has said.

The Modi government had in 2015 approved the project for building a National War Memorial and a National War Museum near India Gate in memory of over 22,500 soldiers who laid down their lives post-Independence.

In Mann-Ki-Baat speech, Prime Minister said by building up such a memorial the country in a very small way will try to repay their debt to the martyred soldiers. (UNI)
