New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary, saying "the story of his courage, struggle and dedication in the freedom movement will always be remembered by countrymen".
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tributes.
"Lala Lajpat Rai was a fearless and courageous fighter of the Indian freedom struggle. He fought for a lifetime against the rule of the British and also sacrificed his life," Rajnath Singh wrote on Twitter.
Amit Shah wrote: "Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai, with his extraordinary patriotism and courage, wrote a golden chapter in the history of the freedom movement by preparing a new generation of the youth against the atrocities of foreign rule. His sacrifice and struggle are reverential."
Lala Lajpat Rai was born on January 28, 1865. (UNI)
