PM Modi, Prez Kovind pay tributes to BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his birth anniversary and recalled his contributions to the progress of the nation. 

"Tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his Jayanti. He has made indelible contributions to India's progress. This is a day to reiterate our commitment to fulfil his dreams for our nation," the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter.



The Prime Minister also shared a short video clip which contained portions of his previous speeches highlighting the contributions of Dr Ambedkar in building a modern India.

"Baba Saheb Ambedkar was not a person, he was another name of a resolve. He didn't not live his life, but he threw his life into a struggle," the Prime Minister was heard saying in the video clip.

A special program was also organised at Ambedkar statue in Parliament House lawns on the occasion to remember Dr Ambedkar. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and several others paid floral tributes to the architect of Indian Constitution.



A wreath was also laid in the Central Hall of the Parliament House. Several ministers and MPs were present during the event.



President Ram Nath Kovind also remembered Dr Ambedkar. "Humble tributes to Babasaheb on Ambedkar Jayanti ! A strong advocate of social justice, Babasaheb laid the foundation of modern India as an architect of Constitution. Let us make our contribution to building an inclusive society by following his ideal of 'Indian before, Indian later and finally Indian too'," Kovind said in a tweet.



Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 in Madhya Pradesh. The principal architect of the Indian Constitution was an economist, social reformer and a human rights activist. He is known for his struggles against untouchability in India. (UNI)
