Etawah: Etawah police managed to arrest Samajwadi Party leader and newly elected district panchayat member Dharmendra Yadav before he could surrender before the court here on Monday.
Police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on the SP leader after he went missing following bringing out a celebratory procession after release from Jail on June 5 last.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Brijesh Kumar Singh while confirming the arrest said that Dharmendra was arrested when he was entering from Gate No 3 to surrender in the court.
SSP said that the information about Dharmendra surrendering was received several times, but today after confirming and convincing information, the arrest of Dharmendra Yadav was done jointly by the Civil Line Police and the Crime Branch during the checking.
He said that Dharmendra Yadav was released from the district jail of Etawah in the evening on June 4, and on the next day, he took out a celebratory procession with his supporters from outside the jail. After the video of which went viral on social media Dharmendra Yadav and his 200 supporters, a case was registered against him at the Civil Lines police station.
Police teams were continuously raiding in search of Dharmendra, in the meantime, 39 people involved in Dharmendra's convoy were nabbed. Apart from this, 29 vehicles were confiscated, but there was no trace of Dharmendra.
Today a police informer, informed that Dharmendra Yadav is about to reach the court to surrender, the police arrested him after intensive checking.
At present, Dharmendra Yadav has been taken to the Civil Lines police station where he is being questioned at various levels.
Initiating the action for taking out the Hooter rally by Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav, CO Etawah was transferred and 7 policemen were suspended.
A case was registered against Dharmendra Yadav and his two hundred supporters, including Dharmendra Yadav, under sections 188, 269,270 of the IPC along with 7 Criminal Law Act and Epidemic Act at the Civil Lines police station for taking out a Hooter rally to Dharmendra Yadav.
After his release from jail, Dharmendra Yadav was welcomed by his supporters by putting a silver crown and garland around his neck.
Dharmendra Yadav is the president of Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha in Etawah's neighbouring Auraiya district, and in the panchayat elections, he was fielded as a district panchayat member from Bhagya Nagar, where he won by over 13,000 votes. During the panchayat polls, Dharmendra Yadav was in jail in connection with a criminal case.(UNI)
