Violence sparks between left and right forces in Tripura as election inches closer

Agartala: The violence continued in Tripura even after poll schedule is announced for 60 –members’ assembly while police is accused of playing a partisan role against the opposition. In two separate violence between CPI(M) and BJP as many as nine persons injured severely 
in Dharmanagar and Belonia.

In another incident angry villagers of Mohanpur in northern Agartala have detained two police officers last night alleging their align activity towards ruling left front government. Late senior police officials could able manage to rescue them assuring action against the erring policemen.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikant warned both police and civil service officers to be neutral and discharge duties as per law and added, “The Election Commission will not spare anybody if found in indulgence to any illegal act or dereliction of duty.”However, BJP threatened to move ECI against the violence of CPI(M) and role of state police.

According to report, CPI(M) cadres attacked a rally last evening at Sanicherra of Dharmanagar in North Tripura, which left as many as three persons injured and among them one BJP worker Rana Sinha is stated to be serious.Another Kanu Mallik (48) of Subhash Palli, Chandrapur of Dharmanagar was allegedly called from his house by CPI(M) workers and beaten him. FIR was lodged against two accused, but police did not arrest them.

On the other, after the declaration of election schedule BJP organised ‘‘Sankalpa rally’’ and it was allegedly attacked by CPI(M) cadres at Hrishyamukh of Belonia in South Tripura. Similar incident was reported from Champaknagar of Belonia. As a result, five BJP workers were claimed to be injured.

In another incident, the angry villagers detained two police sub inspectors – Amarjit Debbarma and Rajib Adhikari at Manipuribasti of Mohanpur at night. Allegedly, the officers went to arrest to BJP workers (Bistarak) came from Assam and Manipur who organized small meetings at the village level.

When both of them were at dinner in a house of local BJP supporters, police stormed the house and forcefully wanted to pick them up alleging them involved in unscrupulous activities. The house called the villagers and they cordoned the policemen seeking clarification of charges against them but they could not convince them.Meantime, local MLA Ratan Lal Nath reached the spot and called up SDPO to seek pardon for unnecessarily harassing the BJP workers.

Later, SDPO Suman Majumdar went to spot, but the police officers were found swung into motivate action against BJP workers. He assured villagers to take appropriate action against the erring policemen. (UNI)
