Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said the credit for taking India to international level goes to late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
"Nehru's work was commendable at the international level for the Non-Alignment Movement with Yugoslavia President General Josip Broz Tito and India is still playing a major role in NAM," he said after garlanding a statue of Nehru on his birth anniversary here.
As the Prime Minister, Nehru laid the foundation for India's development, Bommai said.He said Nehru worked very closely with Mahatma Gandhi and supported the latter during India's freedom struggle to the hilt and strove hard for the country to bloom.Bommai said Nehru loved children and his birth anniversary is celebrated as Children's Day.
Mamata pays tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary.
“Tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary,” Banerjee posted on her social networking page.The chief minister also extended her greetings and best wishes on children’s day.
Kharge pays homage to Nehru, calls him champion of democracy
New Delhi:Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday paid homage to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary and called him "champion" of democracy.
Taking to Twitter, Kharge wrote, "Pandit Nehru — the maker of modern India. 21st India cannot be imagined without his tremendous contribution."
"A champion of Democracy, his progressive thoughts furthered India’s social,political and economic development, despite the challenges. My humble homage to a true patriot," the Congress chief said.
Later, Kharge along with his predecessor Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes to Nehru at Shanti Van here.(UNI)
