Jalandhar: Senior BJP leader and former minister in the SAD-BJP government Manoranjan Kalia's residence in Central town was attacked with a grenade late last night.

Heavy contingent of police, led by Commissioner Dhanwant Kaur, rushed to the spot. All the roads leading to the residence of Kalia have been cordoned off.

Kalia said the loud noise of the grenade was heard in between 1.00 am to 1.30 am.

Window panes of the outer side of the residence have been broken.

Leaders of not only the BJP but also other political parties have rushed to the site.

Kalia accuses police of not responding to call

Kalia said his security in-charge Nishan Singh tried to contact police over telephone, but the call was not responded.

Kalia said the CCTV footage has confirmed that the assailant came in an e-rickshaw which first crossed the house and then immediately returned followed by a motor cyclist.

One of the occupants alighted from the e-rickshaw and hurled the grenade causing damage to the entrance door, window panes and a car parked inside the house.

He said the e-rickshaw soon after the blast fled towards Jalandhar Railway station side.

Kalia alleged that the law and order situation in the state, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has been nosediving with everyday passing day.

He further alleged that none is safe in the state.
