New Delhi: In yet another feather in the cap for 'Newton', actor Rajkummar Rao has been nominated for best performance in the film at Asia Pacific Screen Awards.The film, which is India's entry at Oscars in the Best Foreign film category, has also been nominated for best screenplay at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.The actor took to social media to announce the news.
"Happy to share that I've been nominated 4 best performance by an actor in d prestigious AsiaPacificScreenAwards for Newton also BestScreenplay,' Rao tweeted.Co-written and directed by Amit V Masurkar, 'Newton' stars National Award-winning Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav.
The film is the story of Newton Kumaar, a rookie government clerk sent on election duty to a naxal-controlled town in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh.Faced with the apathy of security forces and the looming fear of guerrilla attacks by the Maoists rebels, he tries his best to conduct free and fair voting despite the odds stacked against him.
The nomination for 'Newton ' comes after the film received accolades at several international film festivals.'Newton' had its world premiere in the Forum section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival, and is set to have its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival where it screens in the International Narrative Competition section.It has also been selected as India's entry to the Oscars in the Best Foreign film category.(UNI)
