Palakkad: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat today hoisted the National flag in a school here defying the District Collector’s memo that it is inappropriate for a political leader to hoist national flag in an aided school. The District Collector issued the memo last night to the Karnakkiyamman School Management stating that only teachers or elected representatives of the people are allowed to do so.

Following the government decision, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) challenged the district administration announcing that the RSS Chief would hoist the flag in the school run by a pro-RSS management. The school management received the memo from the Collector at 0100 hrs. The local BJP-RSS leaders also clarified that anyone can hoist the tricolour flag on Independence Day according to the flag code and related rules. The RSS Chief was in the town to attend a two-day organisation programme. (UNI)
