New Delhi: Supreme Court on Friday said it is of tentative view and prima facie it seemed that the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati should reimburse the public exchequer for all the amounts she had spent on putting in place elephant statues at public places.
A bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, said, prima facie it seemed that the former Chief Minister had to reimburse the public exchequer money spent on putting elephants statues in UP.

The top court said this after hearing a petition filed by Ravi Kant, seeking action against Mayawati for spending  public money on putting elephants statues in UP, and fixed the matter for further hearing on April 2."Mayawati should pay back for using public money," the court said.

The top court also asked Mayawati's lawyer to come up with defence in the next date of hearing on April 2. It also declined Mayawati's plea to adjourn the matter.(UNI)
