New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stay the Constitutional Amendment Act without hearing the Centre.
"We asked the Centre to file a detailed response in four weeks time in over 140 petitions on the Constitutional validity of CAA," a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) S A Bobde said.
Appearing for one of the petitioners, senior advocate Kapil Sibal urged the Court to put on hold operations of CAA and postpone exercise of National Population Register for time being.
Attorney General KK Venugopal asked the Supreme Court to freeze filing of further petitions as more than 140 petitions on CAA have already been filed.(UNI)
