Scribe receives death threat from gulf country, These journos and MLAs have been threatened so far

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Journalist Shajan Skariah, who is also the Chairman of 'Marunadan Malayali,' one of the leading online Malayalam news portals, has received death threats from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
A few TikTok videos posted from GCC countries have threatened that Shajan Skariah will be finished if he continues to criticise certain organisations which are hijacking political parties who are totally silent and have failed to react politically against such outfits having hidden agendas.
In a recently uploaded video in his YouTube channel, Shajan Skariah has disclosed the details of a few youths, settled in GCC countries, who issued death threats to him.
 
However, the State Police is yet to take action against those who issued death threats from GCC countries to the Senior Journalist in Kerala, sources said on Tuesday.
 
Shajan Skariah, who received the death threats from GCC countries, founded the leading online Malayalam news portal 'Marunadan Malayali' and was the Managing Editor till 2018. Marunadan Malayali was started in 2007, and is the only one with 11 different country specific editions.
 
According to Alexa ranking, Marunadan Malayalee hold the position of the third highest online malayalam daily in terms of readership, after Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi, as of 2013.
 
Shajan Skariah, a former Sub-Editor of Deepika, has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Journalism. He has reported 2002 Korean Asian Games, 2003 Afro-Asian Games, 2008 Busan Asian Games, 2012 London Olympics and several National Games as a representative of various Malayalam Publications.
 
He was also a recipient of the Kerala State Award for Journalism in developmental journalism in 2000.

News on Union minister of Kerala calls for death threat
A few days ago, another Correspondent of a news portal received a death threat from a National political party for carrying news related to a Union Minister from Kerala.
Soon after the incident, the Correspondent of 'LoginKerala', M Manoj Kumar contacted a senior police official in the rank of DGP in the state police headquarters over phone and informed him about the death threat.
 
However, police is yet to initiate strict probe into the rising number of death threats against Journalists in the state.

mysterious death of Executive Editor
Earlier, there was a mysterious death of Executive Editor of Bharat Live Ytube channel SV Pradeep, who was killed in a hit-and-run road incident at Karakkamandapam in this city on December 14, 2020.
 
Demanding a CBI probe into the mysterious death, his family alleged that "Though the police registered a crime as per section 302 of the IPC based on CCTV images, now they are trying to dispose the case as an accident case and they deleted section 302 of IPC and added section 304 in order to save the real accussed persons."

Death threat for saying Jai shri ram - a war cry
 
Adoor Gopalakrishan received threat from the spokesperson of a National party for voicing concern against chanting 'Jai Sri Ram' as 'a war cry' while lynching people.Soon after the incident, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called on Adoor Gopalakrishan and condemned the Sangh Parivar threat against him and stated that plan of communal forces to silence the people having different opinion is not acceptable.
 
Death threat to MLA
Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has received the death threat through an anonymous letter to his MLA Hostel address in Thiruvananthapuram.Thiruvanchoor has been warned that he will be killed along with his family members within 10 days if he does not leave India. Later, he complained to the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the threat.
 
Mr Chitharanjan has received an anonymous letter to his MLA hostel address here threatening to kill him and his family.The MLA has been warned that he will be killed along with his family members within nine days if he does not leave India.Thalasseerry MLA AN Shamseer and DYFI state secretary AA Rahim will also face the same fate, the letter warned.

Death threat from L-e-T
The 75-year-old G Madhavan Nair, has received a death threat from terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed.Mr Madhavan Nair, a recepient of several awards including Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, was instrumental in developing the cryogenic engine for the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) for the country.Kerala Janapaksham leader PC George MLA has also claimed that he was threatened to kill by a gangster.

Recently, several people including eminent film director Adoor Gopalakrishan, former ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair, former Kerala Home Minister and senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Alappuzha CPI (M) MLA PP Chitharajnan have received similar death threats through anonymous letters and social media.(UNI)
