Sonia, Manmohan visit  Chidambaram in Tihar Jail

New Delhi: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh visited former finance Minister P Chidambaram at the Tihar prisons here on Monday morning.As per sources, the two senior leaders met the former finance minister at the meeting room where his son Karti Chidambaram was also present.
Dr Singh and Ms Gandhi reached the jail around 0900 hrs and entered from the Jail no 3 gate  and headed for the Jail no 7 where Mr Chidambaram has been lodged. The Congress veterans met Mr Chidambaram for around thirty minutes.
 
Appropriate security arrangements in the jail were in place during the visit of the two leaders.
Meanwhile, Ms Gandhi and former PM did not meet another Congress  leader D K Shivkumar who is also undergoing imprisonment in Tihar.Through his family, Mr Chidambaram later said  he was honored over Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh calling on him.
 
''I have asked my family to tweet on my behalf the following: I am honoured that Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh called on me today.As long as the @INCIndia party is strong and brave, I will also be strong and brave,''

Mr Chidambaram's twitter handle read.As long as the Indian National Congress stays strong and brave, he will also remain to be the same, it read.''Everything is good in the country. Except for unemployment, loss of existing jobs, lower wages, mob violence, lockdown in Kashmir and throwing Opposition leaders in prison,'' the Tweet said. 
 
Karti Chidamabaram, while speaking to the press, said his father and family are grateful  to Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh for their support and visiting him here , which is a boost for them in the ongoing fight .Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in INX media case(UNI)
