National Herald case: ED summons Sonia-Rahul Gandhi on June 8

National Herald case: ED summons Sonia-Rahul Gandhi on June 8
, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 (14:43 IST)
New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi have been summoned in the National Herald case by the Enforcement Directorate, sources said on Wednesday. Congress slammed the government for misusing agencies to target political opponents.

According to ED sources, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have been asked to appear before the financial probe agency on June 8. This is the first time, the mother and son have been summoned in the case

Addressing the media alongside Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, party MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said both leaders have been summoned in the National Herald case for money laundering even when there was "no money or money laundering involved in the case" as he questioned its "reopening".

"It is a money laundering case in which summons are being issued, with no money involved," Singhvi, who is also party spokesperson, said.

"That is why this case was closed. But as malafide as this government is, they sacked the head of ED at that time... seven years later today they are summoning Congress President and former president," he said.

"This is part of a larger disease, a disease which will consume the ruling party ultimately. The disease is one of attacking every political party purely on vendetta terms," said Singhvi.

"From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Farrukh Abdullah to DMK functionaries, Gujarat to West Bengal, Mevani to Mamata Banerjee and the family of Mamata Banerjee...."

"The BJP has brought or tried to bring every political opponent under the net of puppet agencies like CBI, ED etc.... We will face them, we are not a bit scared or intimidated," he added. (UNI)
